Culture Count logoDear New Hampshire artist,

Creative professionals count. You count. Add yourself or your cultural enterprise, nonprofit or for-profit, to CultureCount. Make sure you count.

The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) invite you to take part in CultureCount, New England’s Cultural Database. CultureCount (culturecount.org) is NEFA’s online resource for engaging New England’s creative economy sector. The website is a searchable, organization-level compilation of data on New England’s cultural nonprofits, businesses, and professionals. It paints a comprehensive picture of New England’s creative economy and highlights its powerful impact on our region’s economic health. Because culture counts!

CultureCount is provided as a free public service to all of New England and currently houses 24,880 active records collected from public data sources. The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts shares public organization data directly with NEFA, but you as individuals are being given the opportunity to add yourselves to CultureCount independently. *MatchBook.org artists are added to CultureCount automatically, but to edit your information on CultureCount and use other tools, you must be a registered CultureCount user.

How do CultureCount and NEFA’s MatchBook.org relate to each other?

These online services go hand in hand. MatchBook.org is a marketing tool geared toward getting performing and teaching artists hired. Artist, presenter, and venue profiles in MatchBook.org are uploaded into CultureCount to make it a more comprehensive tool for engaging, measuring, and highlighting all of the region’s cultural nonprofits, businesses, and professionals. MatchBook.org artists can then see themselves as part of a vital economic sector, and use the research tools in CultureCount. Both MatchBook.org, as a marketing tool, and CultureCount, as a research tool, foster more effective advocacy for the arts and culture by documenting the economic force of the creative sector.

Why does culture count?

Cultural enterprises and cultural workers plan an important role in New England’s economy, contributing significantly to local and regional economies and fueling other sectors of the economy in unique ways. To learn more about NEFA’s long history of creative economy research and the definition of organizations and individuals that can accurately be considered part of this economic sector in the United States, go to www.nefa.org/pubs.
